Jacksonville golfer finishes in top 5 at Texas State Jr. Championship

HORSESHOE BAY, Texas — Jacksonville's Hunter Shattuck saved his best for last and shot a final round 72 Friday to end up tied for fifth place in the 86th Texas State Junior Championship presented by Merrill Lynch.

Shattuck, a graduate of The Brook Hill School, carded rounds of 74 on Wednesday and Thursday to end the tournament at 220.

Maxwell Miller of College Station shot a blistering 70 on Friday to take the championship at 214 (72-72-70).

Jake McCrory of Deer Park was two strokes back and finished second.

The tournament, which featured 120 linksters from all across Texas, was held at the par-71 Ram Rock course which played 6, 811 yards.

Shattuck will be attending McLennan Community College in the fall on a golf scholarship.
