Brook Hill teams cruise past Canyon Creek; McDermott fires in 23

BULLARD —  The Brook Hill girl’s and boy’s hoops groups picked up district wins over Richardson-Canyon Creek in District 4, Division III TAPPS play on Tuesday night at the Herrington Sports Complex.

Samantha Anderson led the Lady Guard (10-6;2-0), to a 49-23 win, scoring 16 points, and grabbing 14 rebounds in limited playing time. The Brook Hill starters checked out at the 4:04 mark of the third quarter, returning sparingly as the bench played the youthful Lady Cougars (0-2).

The boys chalked up a league win in convincing fashion with a 79-49 win in the finale of the night behind four players in double-digits led by Chase McDermott’s 23-points.

District play continues on Friday night with McKinney Christian traveling to play at Brook Hill in a boys’ and girls’ doubleheader. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys to follow at 7 p.m.

The weather outside was cold and icy. The Lady Guard took advantage of some ice-cold shooting in the first half from Canyon Creek to remain undefeated in district play.

The Lady Guard jumped to a 14-0 first quarter lead as Brook Hill point guard Morgan Moss made six of her 11-points in the game, sparking the defense with seven steals in the game.

Samantha Anderson had another double-double with 16-points and 14 rebounds to lead the way, scoring 10 in the first half, and a 31-2 cushion.

Canyon Creek finally got a first bucket with 20-seconds remaining in the second quarter on Alex Livingston’s lone basket for the Lady Cougars.

Lady Guard forward, Alyssa Eden knocked down a three-pointer and added 14-points, and six rebounds.
