NEW SUMMERFIELD —
The New Summerfield Hornets will look to extend their district record to 3-0 tonight when they host the Mount Enterprise Wildcats around 7:30 p.m.this evening at Hornet Gymnasium.
The game will be a part of the annual homecoming activities at NS, which are scheduled to begin today with a 2:30 p.m. pep rally in the gymnasium.
Capping off the day's events will be a dance (9 p.m. to midnight) for high-school age students.
Now back to basketball.
The Hornets torpedoed Cushing (90-54) last Friday to open league play and then followed that up with a 90-43 win over Neches in Neches on Tuesday night.
Austin Gray and Ryan Weaver scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, to guide NS to the blowout win over the Tigers.
Cameron Williams knocked in 16 and Angel Marroquin pumped in 14,
Other scorers for the Hornets of head coach Jason Davis were Case Wilkerson with nine, Devon Abercrombie who had eight and Julio Rubio who contributed three.
The Lady Hornets (14-10, 2-2) will get the twin bill started at 6 p.m.by taking on ME's Galcats.
The NS girls will be looming to rebound from a 52-25 loss to Neches in their last outing on Tuesday.
In that game Neches jumped out to a 16-1 lead after the first eight minutes of play in a game that NS never threatened in.
An ice-cold shooting night from the field — the NS girls hit just 20-percent (8-of-40) from the field — but the NS girls behind the eight ball from the start.
Leading scorers for the Lady Hornets were Maritzza Melendez and Tanya Saurez, who tossed in seven points apiece.
The top rebounder for NS was Kokis Vargas with seven.
