BRYAN — Jacksonville dominated from start to finish in a Class 4A, Region III bi-distirct tilt aganst Brenham's Cubs Tuesday evening at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan, with the Indians winning, 5-0.
The Tribe will face either Salado or Mexia in an Area round test later this week.
Pedro Mireless knocked in the first of what was a two-goal evening for the senior when he gave the Tribe a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play.
After a couple of close calls by the Cubs, the second place team out of Distirct 36-4A, Jacksonville doubled its margin when Levi Santana scored on a mid-range boot that came with 3:34 to play in the opening half.
Martin Melchor, a Coastal Carolina Uninversity signee, earned the assists on both of the Tribe's first-two goals.
Trailing 2-0 enter the final 40 minutes of play, Brenham made some personnel adjustments at the break and a much aggressive Cub squad took the pitch for the final segmetn.
Jacksonville's bend-but-don't-break defenders took care of everthing the Cubs fired thier way though.
Defensively, Brenham struggled all night to put pressure on the speedy Tribesmen and the Cubs' inability to mark up Alberto Escareno inside the box in the 10th minute of the closing stanza resulted in an easy goal that sealed the deal for the Indians.
Insurance goals were tallied by Mireless with about 28 minutes left in the fray and by Ander Lopez who sent a header into the twine with 1:06 left in the match.
Lopez' goal was scored off of a Levi Santana corner kick.
