Troup's Luke Smith help his own cause in a monumental way during the Tigers' 11-4 District 18-2A triumph over Sabine's Cardinals on Saturday.
Smith went 3 for 3 at the dish to lead Troup offensively.
Included in Smith's performance was a double in the opening frame.
On the mound, Smith was equally as stout. Working six innings, he gave up two earned runs on just three hits and struck out eight while issuing two base on balls.
Troup did most of its damage in the early stages of the game.
That's when Garrett Pendleton stroked a two-run double, Lou Roberson tossed in a triple that brought a Maroon in to score and Kylie Williams blasted a single that drove one in.
Troup added three runs in the third segment when Kyle Williams' sacrifice fly brought a run across and Brandon Hearon forged out an RBI-single.
The win moved the Tigers (9-6, 5-2 18-2A) into a tie with the Cardinals (10-7, 5-2) for second place in the loop standings.
