Coming in at 377 (fourth place in team standings), the Jacksonville College Lady Jaguar golf team recorded one of its top efforts of the year Monday at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview during opening day play of the LeTourneau University Spring Classic.
Sherman-sophomore, Molly Franks sparked the Lady Jag effort by shooting an 83, which was good enough to put her fourth in the individual standings.
Next was Sydney Cash (14th, 93), followed by Katie Lamond (17th, 96), Megan Moore (T22, 105) and Lauren Hull (T24, 111).
Tyler Junior College's Katherine Bunting fired a 78 to sit atop the leader board going into the final round on Tuesday.
TJC (328) was first in the team rankings, with Hardin-Simmons in second at 355.
Next was Texas A&M International (376).
The Jags stood in sixth place out of 10 teams after the first 18 holes.
JC was at 309 and trailed UT-Tyler (292), St. Thomas of Houston (295), UT-Dallas (298), Louisiana College (299) and Oklahoma Wesleyan (308).
The Jags were ahead of Texas A&M-Texarkana (310), Mississippi College (312), Texas A&M-International (316) and LeTourneau (325).
Sean Kennedy of St. Thomas was credited with the lowest opening-round score, a 1-under par, 69.
Matt Hance, a freshman who prepped at Montgomery (Texas) High School, was low man for JC.
Hance carded a 73, which put him at T6 in the individual standings.
MJ Ghene (T18, 76) and Trey Manis (T33, 79) also cracked 80 for the Jags.
Other participants for JC were, Will Langston (T41, 81) and Brandon Burkhart (T43, 82).
The tourney was scheduled to conclude Tuesday evening (results not available as of press time).
