Dallas — Hunter Shattuck pulled off a wire-to-wire victory in the 14th HP Byron Nelson Junior Champinship at Lakewood Country Club (par 71, 6.680 yards).
The 18-year-old Jacksonville native completed 54 holes of play Thursday by carding a three-round total of 214, which was two shots ahead of three players.
Shattuck either led outright or owned a share of the lead at the conclusion of each round.
The final round was not void of drama as Shattuck bogeyed three of four holes during one stretch of the final round, before bouncing back to chalk up birdies on the par-5 ninth hole and on No. 13, which gave his a three-stroke lead at the time.
Finishing in a tie for second were Jake McCrory of Deer Park, Dallas' Preston Harrington and Frisco linkster Brandon Smith.
Shattuck is a graduate of The Brook Hill School in Bullard. He will be attending McLennan Community College in Waco in the fall on a golf scholarship.
For his efforts this week Shattuck earned a crystal trophy and an exemption into next year's Texas Amateur Championship.
