Lady Jaguar soccer inks services of Athens Christian Prep duo

ATHENS — Jacksonville College soccer coach Rafael Gonzalez turned to tiny Athens Christian Preparatory Academy for the Lady Jaguars' two latest signees.

Katie West and Cayla Chanie, who both went through an open tryout last month on campus, put the pen on the paper on Wednesday to make their intentions official.

Chanie said in an interview with the Athens Daily Review, that being able to play at the college level along side her best friend was quite special.

“She (West) has been my best friend since I was a little kid, s it is great to play with her,” Chanie said. “I (also) like the fact that it (Jacksonville College) is close to home with a nice environment. (Coach Gonzalez) is a great coach and I really like him a lot.”

Jacksonville College will be fielding men's and women's soccer teams for the first time this fall.

The Lady Jags will compete as a member of NJCAA Region XIV.

At least one highly respected state-wide prognosticator, PigskinPrep.com, says that will change this year.

In it's preseason review, PigskinPrep.com predicted that the Broncos, an seemingly unceasing playoff participant, will go undefeated — 10-0 — in the regular season in 2014.

Lake Athens is one of the best bass fishing lakes in our area. The lake is about the same size as Lake Jacksonville, with one big exception. Lake Athens is loaded with vegetation of all kinds. Hydrilla, America pond weed and lily pads, just to mention a few. Hydrilla is scattered throughout the lake but is kept under control.
