Facing less than ideal running conditions that hit East Texas late last week with the onslaught of rain, the Maiden cross country team of Jacksonville High School managed to chalked up a 4th place finish at the Puddle Jump & Pig Trot meet in Kilgore on Saturday.

The JHS girls logged 94 points and finished behind Tyler Lee (39), Pine Tree (40) and Lufkin who tallied 58 points.

Individually, Tempestt Silvers ran a 22:04 and came in 15th place. Next for JHS was Shannon Chilton (23:01, 24th) and Jessika Alvarez (23:02, 26th).

Completing the order of finish of the Maidens was Ariana Morres (31st) , Mirian Mendoza (34th) and Marisol Ornelas (36th).

Mary Neal of Tyler Lee had the fastest time in the varsity girls 5A-4A division where she was timed in 19:23.06.

In the varsity boys (big school) segment, the Tribe's Jerry Romano took 12th place after traveling the course in 17:35.1.

Hallsville Gold won the team standings for the boys with 26 points and Pine Tree totaled 67 points to finish second.

The Tribe fielded just three runners and were not eligible for the team team title. Pine Tree's Barron Evans broke the tape in a time of 16:21.3 to lead the field across the finish line.

Jacksonville cross country is off this week, but will run in the Lindale Invitational at Garden Valley on Oct.4.
