JACKSONVILLE —

Saturday's Jacksonville Tribe Invitational Cross Country Meet could serve as a preview for the District 16-4A Meet, which will take place at Jacksonville High School on Oct. 24 and decide the league's representatives to the regional meet.

Scheduled to join Jacksonville this week are John Tyler, Lindale and Whitehouse from 16-4A.

Those four schools will compete in the varsity boys and varsity girls 4A-5A division, with the remainder of the field running in the small school (1A-3A) segment.

Schools that had committed as of mid week for that division include, West Rusk, Sabine, Grace Community, Athens, T.K. Gorman and East Texas Christian Academy.

Usually additional schools show up on race day as well.

Three divisions of junior varsity races are also on tap. One race will be for 1A-5A boys, another for 4A-5A girls and the final for 1A-3A girls.

A middle school boys and a middle school girls run will also take place.

The Jacksonville boys have been running with a three-man team for most of the fall.

Jerry Romano has been the Tribe's leading runner and he is expected to give a good effort Saturday over his home course which snakes it way through the high school campus, giving runners a taste of just about every type of terrain imaginable.

The Tribe girls are led by Tempsett Silvers and Jessika Alvarez and as a unit have been trimming their times down throughout the fall season.

The Jacksonville boys are coached by Randy Hammontree, with Kiff Wiemers in charge of the girls team.

NOTE: The start and finish line are located adjacent to the JHS tennis courts on Corinth Road.
