Bullard-freshman Minta Spears knocked down a team-high 20 points, including making good on six shots from beyond the arc to guide Texas Tech to a 73-51 triumph over Angelo State (NCAA Division II) in an exhibition game that was played on the Lady Raiders' home deck on Monday night.
Spears missed all of last season after injuring her knee in a Texas Tech scrimmage game last year.
As a team the Lady Raiders drained 12 triples in the game.
First-year head coach Candi Whitaker had this to say about the win.
“Shot the ball well from behind the arc,” she said. “That surprised me a little bit. I think we shot it from three better than I anticipated.”
After Angelo State took the lead early in the second half, Texas Tech used runs of 9-0 and 20-9 to put the game away once and for all.
The Lady Raiders will open the regular season at 4 p.m. Sunday by hosting Texas-Pan American.
