Jacksonville High School defensive coordinator Mike Waldie has been officially approved by the Woodville Independent School District Board of Trustees as the Tigers' new athletic director/head football coach.
Waldie, a high school buddy of Fightin' Indian head coach Chris Taber, came to Jacksonville in May 2012 after serving as athletic director and head football coach at Luling High School in Central Texas.
Waldie stated in a May 16, 2012 interview with the Jacksonville Daily Progress that “...I told him (Taber) if he ever became head coach in Jacksonville, to give me a call and that I would be his defensive coordinator. Well when he got the job here, he called me and I came.”
And now Waldie is leaving.
Waldie is the second coach with back ties to Luling that has resigned for another coaching opportunity this spring — Mike Echols, Jacksonville's head baseball coach, being the other.
Waldie takes over a Tiger program that has struggled in the past three seasons under Steven Fentress.
After going 6-4 in 2010, Woodville has posted records of 5-7, 4-6 and most recently 2-8.
