Henderson scored a late goal to power past Jacksonville, 3-2, in a non-district girls soccer match that took place at Tomato Bowl on Tuesday night.
Jacksonville (0-2) spotted the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead before Sydney Chambless put the Maidens on the board late in the first half.
The Lady Lions enjoyed a 2-1 edge at the break and added another score in the second half to move in front, 3-1.
Callie Reagan pushed through Jacksonville’s final tally on an assist by Rachel Stirneman.
“We had one period there in the second half where they (Hendeson) caught us with our heads down and they were able to capitalize by putting in what turned out to be the winning goal,” Jacksonville head coach, Kiff Wiemers, said. “I told our girls that there was something to be learned from that (Tuesday's loss) and that we have to go out and play hard for an entire 80 minutes if we expect to win.
“We will have many lessons through the season, and as long as we can learn a few things from them by the time the district season starts, we'll be fine.”
Jacksonville will open play in the Lufkin Tournament at 3 p.m. Thursday by facing Huntsville.
