LUFKIN —

Both teams combined for 1,061 yards of combined yardage in the high scoring affair that looked like the winner would be the last team to have the ball in a wild and wooly skirmish that kept fans on the edge of thier seats all night.

The game featured three ball carriers for 200-plus yards, and multiple scores from Alto’s, Jacolby Whitaker and quarterback, Justin Sturns, and Hull-Daisetta signal-caller, Cade Huckabay.

Whitaker ran for five touchdowns, and threw for a PAT conversion and ran for 222-yards.

Alto quarterback, Zach Sturns ran for two scores, and finished the game with 220-yards in 19 carries for the game.

Huckabay scored four times, threw for another score and also caught an important PAT pass. The Bobcat quarterback ran for 218-yards in 21 carries, adding another, 81-yards through the air in the loss.

Whitaker scored on back-to-back drives in the third quarter to take the first Alto lead. The two teams exchanged the lead two more times before the game winning tally with 1:01 left to play. Sturns carried six tacklers into the end zone from 16-yards out in the final quarter for the winning score.

On the second play of the game Huckabay optioned around the left side for a 70-yard touchdown gallop. Cody Welch followed up with the PAT kick and a fast, 7-0, Hull-Daisetta lead.

The ‘Jackets tied the game at 7-7 after a 26-yard run by Jacoby Whitaker, and the Nicholas Leon kick with 3:07 left in the opening stanza.

A two-yard run by Huckabay and the PAT kick was answered by a 57-yard jaunt by Whitaker but the first block made it a 14-13 contest.

Welch was on the receiving end of a 46-yard pitch-and-catch from Huckabay, again answered by Whitaker’s third score with a 6-yard blast. However another PAT block by the Bobcats made it 20-19.

Later with five-seconds left in the half, Huckabay plowed in from 14-yards out with just five-seconds remaining in the half for a 27-19 cushion at the break.
