ATHENS —

It has been said that timing can be everything in sports.

The Jacksonville College men's basketball team won both of its games on Friday and Saturday in the Trinity Valley Classic, first notching a 78-75 decision over Clarendon from NJCAA Region V, on Friday night and then thumping Kingdom Prep of Iowa, 103-85, Saturday afternoon.

Its the first time this season the Jags (4-5) have pulled off back-to-back wins.

The momentum comes at a great time with the Purple and White slated to open Region XIV play on Tuesday night when they travel to Corsicana to take on Navarro College at 7 p.m.

JC shot 80-percent (20-25) at the charity stripe Friday evening in clipping Clarendon (1-5).

“This group continues to improve and that's exciting to watch,” JC head coach Jody Bailey said. “We won three games in the last week and finished the week strong, which was important for us.

“I think by winning a close game on the road, that will give us some confidence as we open our conference play.”

After a few days off for Thanksgiving, the Jags will host Kilgore on Dec. 3 (7:30 p.m.) and Tyler Junior College at 4 p.m. on Dec. 7.
