Success draws attention, and Houston-Second Baptist has decided to hire the most successful head coach in Brook Hill School history, Terry Pirtle, as its new head football coach.
Pirtle revealed on Monday that he will be departing Brook Hill, where he has lead the Guard to one state championship in football and two in baseball, at the end of the current school year.
Coming from Pine Tree High School and living and growing up in Longview, then the moving to Brook Hill, Terry and his wife Terri are hard-core Eat Texans and the new move as Pirtle put it, a “leap of faith.”
Pirtle went 40-13 on the gridiron in his four years at Brook Hill, reaching the state final three times. The Guard also went to three straight title games in his time at BH.
Pirtle has got one more baseball title in mound before the move down south.
“We’re Longview people, East Texas people. It’s definitely going to be a change for us as far as our comfort level and knowing people in that area.,” Pirtle said.
Houston-Second Baptist is a TAPPS Division II program of which Brook Hill was in last year winning hardball title number two. The Eagles have about 200 more students than Brook Hill
Terry Pirtle to a degree follows family-suite, after his brother Mike Pirtle, the former Robert E. Lee baseball coach of 12 years is in the Houston area now coaching at Conroe Oak Ridge.
The future had some perks to the Houston move also.
Pirtle’s oldest daughter, Caitlan, will be moving to Houston soon after graduating from Texas A&M and his son, Travis, will be transferring from UT Tyler to either Texas, Houston or Stephen F. Austin, according to Pirtle.
First things first however and Pirtle is concentrating on a third straight baseball title.
Currently 16-4, The Guard has been top-ranked in TAPPS Division III from the seasons start.
Summing up his coaching legacy for Brook Hill, Pirtle said the table was set for success.
“It was a dream job there for us as far as being able to compete for as many state championships” he said.
Good luck Coach Pirtle!
