As a result of their performances at the Class 3A District 19-20 Area meet, which was hosted by Carthage High School on Wednesday, five student-athletes from Rusk High School have earned a spot in the Class 3A, Region III Meet, slated for George Turner Stadium in Humble (April 25-26).
Shayla Townsend took first place in the 100M hurdles, finishing in a time of 15.18, at the area competition and will be the lone Lady Eagle advancing to the regional level. Townsend also won the gold medal in girls pole vault, where she cleared 9'-06”.
Turning to the boys side now, Vijay Stingley had the fastest time in the 100M hurdles where he was clocked in 11.11
Another event winner from Rusk was Octavion Arrington. Arrington landed a toss of 145'-4” to win the discus competition by exactly three feet.
Damarion Greenwood will also be heading to Humble next week. Greenwood ran a 41.41 to finish second in the 300M hurdles.
Jack Patton is Rusk's final representative. Patton wound up in fourth place in the 110M hurdles. He was clocked in a time of 16.48.
