ENNIS —

The Lady Lions of Ennis ended Jacksonville's season Friday night by claiming a 13-5 win over the Fightin' Maidens in Game 2 of a best-of-three Class 4-A, Region II, bi-district series.

State-ranked Ennis blanked the Maidens, 13-0, on Thursday in the series opener, which was played before an overflow crowd at Fightin' Maiden Field.

Jacksonville, who appeared in post season play for the first time in school history this season, ended the year at 16-16-1.

The Maidens, the fourth place team out of District 16-4A, lose only two players — Nicole Robinson and Erin McGarity — to graduation, so the future indeed looks promising for the Jacksonville ladies.

“We took a big step as a program to qualify for the playoffs for the first time this year,” Jacksonville head coach, Amber Danner-Kirk said. “I think that this will give our girls a lot of confidence and inspire them to work even harder during summer ball and in the off season.

“This is a start for us and we want to continue to get better and build on what this year's team was able to accomplish.”

Ennis (26-4), a perennial playoff participant, will move on to area play next week.
