Prep girls hoops: Full dish of district encounters on the docket for tonight

JACKSONVILLE — The girls will take center stage tonight at gymnasiums across the county as all of the area's public school teams open their respective district campaigns, with the exception of Troup.

Jacksonville (10-12) is slated to host Whitehouse (10-6) at 7:30 p.m. in the District 16-4A opener.

The Maidens, who are coached by Tony Harris, are led by senior post Chancii Scott and junior guard Jasmine Parson, who generally account for most of the Maidens' points.

The Ladycats are under the guidance of coach Rosalyn Tindal and have played a very formidable non-conference schedule which has included Whitehouse taking on several Class 5-A teams.

Whitehouse swept its games in the Brownsboro Doubleheader over the weekend by claiming triumphs over Van (53-32) and Brownsboro (43-30) and appear to be opening into conference play in excellent form.

The Rusk Lady Eagles will return to the court tonight by entertaining Fairfield at 5 p.m.in the District 19-3A opener.

Bullard's Lady Panthers (15-9, 3-0) will be attempting to improve to 4-0 in District 16-3A action when they travel up to Gladewater for a  6 p.m. date with the Lady Bears tonight.

New Summerfield will be playing host to Alto's girls at 5 p.m. this evening in the District 21-A-I opener.

The Lady Hornets (11-9) were picked to finish third in conference in the pre-season rankings, while Alto was slotted in the cellar.

The Troup Lady Tigers (8-7, 1-3) have the night off, but will crank back up on Tuesday by welcoming league rival Hawkins to Tiger Gymnasium for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
