Carter, Robinson team up for 34 points and 30 rebounds; Lady Jaguars roll Angelina College

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville College's Khadijah Carter and Jasmine Robinson dominated things inside which made it easy for the Lady Jaguars to thump Angelina College 70-56 in a Region XIV game that was played at Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse Thursday evening.

Carter scored a game-high 18 points and hauled down 16 rebounds, while Robinson pumped in 16 points to compliment her 14 boards.

Susan Agesen, another Lady Jag post player, added 11 points and had six rebounds.

The JC ladies, who are now 11-10 overall, 4-4 in Region XIV led by only five points, 31-26, at halftime.

The Lady Jags closed out the opening half on a 15-3 run to put themselves in a position to win and then opened the final half by hitting 6-of-9 from the field while playing lock-down defense — the Lady Jags held the Lady “Runners to 1-of-9 from the field during the first six minutes of the second half.

After a Robinson basket that came with 14:41 left to go, JC led by 13 points, 44-31.

The Lady 'Runners (14-8, 6-3 Region XIV) could get no closer than 10 the rest of the evening.

JC head coach Lynn Nabi said before the game that he was worried how the eight-day layoff would affect his team.

Turns out it was all good as the Lady Jags played at a high level all night and performed well in most all facets of the game.

The Lady Jags shot 44.6-percent (25-56) from the field while out rebounding Angelina 49-33.

Breanna Burford chipped in seven points for JC, followed by Chelsea Rogers and Deva'Nyar Workman who canned six apiece.

Demetria Foreman, who previously played at Lon Morris College, paced Angelina offensively by firing in 16 points.

Lexi Harris notched a double-double for the Lady 'Runners, scoring 11 points and shagging 14 caroms.

Cervet Davis and Diamond Webb put in 10 each.

Angelina's three-game conference winning streak was put to rest with the loss.

The JC win avenges a two-point loss JC suffered at the hands of the Lady 'Runners in mid January in Lufkin.

The Lady Jags will visit Tyler Junior College at 2 p.m. Saturday.
