League-leading Indians to host 'Doches tonight

Maidens to battle Lady Dragons at JISD Gym

JACKSONVILLE —

The Jacksonville Fightin' Indians basketball team will be looking to go 3-0 in District 16-4A play and remain alone at the top of the league standings when it hosts Nacogdoches at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the JISD Gymnasium.

The Tribe are coming off a 54-48 triumph over the Tigers of Corsicana on Tuesday night.

In that tilt Jacksonville (17-6, 2-0 16-4A) jumped out to a double-digit lead in the second quarter and then had to fight off a strong Tiger rally the rest of the evening.

Datavion Thacker came in as a reserve and led his team in scoring, banking 17 points while Charles Kendrick chipping in 10.

The Dragons (17-7, 1-1) spanked Lindale, 56-38, on Tuesday to collect their first loop win. Nacogdoches also has a 66-59 loss to John Tyler.

Speaking of John Tyler, the Indians are scheduled to face the Lions in Tyler this coming Tuesday.

At 6:15 p.m.this evening girls varsity teams from both schools will do battle.

The Maidens (11-12, 0-4) lost their last outing on Tuesday when Corsicana dispensed a 36-29 setback to the Jacksonville girls.

The team has battled a slew of injuries this season, including having to deal with the loss of leading scorer Jasmine Parson, but appears to be close to returning to early season form.

Parson tossed in 11 points on Tuesday and is slowly getting back into the groove.

The Lady Dragons (13-11, 1-3) sufferred a 61-47 loss to Lindale on Tuesday, in a game that was played in Nacogdoches.

Nacogdoches' lone conference victory this season came against Whitehouse (54-53).
