RUSK — In what turned out to be a highly competitive Rusk Invitational on Saturday, powerlifters from Center slipped past the Eagles 36-30 to take top honors on the boys side.
Fairfield (26), Elkhart (23) and Bullard (16) rounded out the top five, with a total of 15 schools being represented.
In the girls division, Bullard nipped Athens, 31-30, to win first place.
Brownsboro was third, with 23 points, followed by Fairfield (20) and Rusk's Lady Eagles (20).
A dozen schools sent participants.
A trio of Eagle lifters ended up in first place in their respective weight classes.
Leo Rosales (132 lbs.), Jeremy Turner (181 lbs.) and Zach Swearingen (275 lbs.) all won bragging rights in their categories.
For Turner, it was his second win of the season, as he won his division at the Elkhart Meet a couple of weeks ago.
Rosales had success with a total of 855 lbs.,while Turner handled 1,435 lbs. and Swearingen took care of a total of 1,355 lbs.
Steven Dorsey came in third in the 132 lb. segment, hoisting a total of 770 lbs.
Other Rusk participants included, Brian Sanford (132 lb., 8th), Cole Lawson (165lb., 4th), Tristan Williams (165 lb., 6th), Tyler Wilbanks, (198 lb., 4th), Chris Fletcher (220 lb., BO), Drew Dorsey (220 lb., SC), Will Fridell (242-lb., 13th) and Bryce Hoffman (275 lb., 4th).
Bullard had a pair of contestants that finished in second place.
In the 114lb. Category, Mason Lindamood had success with 650 lbs. to take second, while Dorian Schutt polished off a total of 1,300 lbs. to come in as the runner-up in the 275-lb. class.
Other Panther iron pumpers were, Hunter Miller (148 lb., 8th), Chris Bradford (165 lb., 3rd), Donavan Yeley (165 lb., 8th), Austin Skelton (165 lb., BO) and Tristan Bishop (242 lb., 3rd).
Bullard picked up where it left off on Jan. 18 when the Lady Panthers came in first place at the Van Invitational.
Bullard had three first-place finishers on Saturday, which proved to be just enough to net the Lady Panthers the championship.
