Rusk and Alto have each had a pair of their respective teams to qualify for the Texas Teen-Age Softball Association State Tournaments, which are slated to get under way at various locations around the state on Monday.
In the girls 8U division, the Rusk Crush won the District 8 championship in Rusk late last week to punch their ticket.
The Crush will join opposing units from Dennison, Sherman, Hillsboro, Ferris Comanche and Crockett at the state tournament, to be held in Axtell.
A pair of area squads, the Rusk Stitch Rippers and the Alto Lady Jackets have a spot in the 10U state tournament, scheduled for Sherman.
Other rivals in the 23-team field include: two teams from Sherman, two teams from Dennison and a pair of squads from Whitney.
Other possible opponents are Brownsboro/Murchison/Chandler (BMC), Belton, Bruceville, DeLeon, Jarrell, Rockdale, Hillsboro, Ferris, Leon, Mart, Ranger, Vidor, Van, Grand Saline and Blooming Grove.
Rusk finished in first place and the Lady Jackets came in second at last week's District 8 tourney, that was also hosted by Rusk.
Alto's Lady Jackets (15U) team won its district tourney, held in Frankston last week, and as a result will be moving on to the state tournament in Denison early next week.
Other possible rivals include: a pair of units from Dennison, Belton, Bruceville Eddy, Ennis and Mildred and single units out of Groesbeck, Axtell, Moody, Cisco, Emory, Stephenville and Ranger.
Good luck, and safe travels, as these teams represent their communities and Cherokee County on the state level.
