Area Hoops Roundup: Brook Hill boys, Bullard girls notch blowout wins

Bullard 53, Gilmer 32: GILMER — Bullard improved to 19-6 overall, 4-2 in 16-3A, by gashing Gilmer 53-32 on the Lady Buckeyes' home court Tuesday night. Scoring in double figures for the lady panthers were Bridgett Taylor (24) and Lexi Abercrombie (13). Taylor Frederick and Brittany Hinton canned five points apiece for the winners. Bullard also was successful in the junior varsity game, winning 34-24. Kristen Chamberlain had nine and Hannah Lloyd pitched in seven for Bullard. The Lady Panthers return home to battle Spring Hill at 6:15 p.m. Friday.


Brook Hill 39, Richardson Canyon Creek 14: RICHARDSON — Brook Hill did a defensive number on Richardson Canyon Creek Tuesday in claiming a 39-14 verdict over the Lady Cougars in a TAPPS 4-3A encounter. Highlighting the defensive effort for the Lady Guard was Brook Hill's holding Canyon Creek (5-6, 0-2) scoreless in the second frame and limiting the home team to just two points in the third period. Charile Niles and Morgan Moss topped out with 12 points each for Brook Hill (6-7, 2-0 TAPPS 4-3A) and Lauren Eden had nine. Brook Hill will travel to McKinney Christian for a Friday evening skirmish.


Winona 51, Troup 50: WINONA — District-leading Winona survived a scare in nipping upset-minded Troup, 51-50, on Tuesday evening. The Troup (11-9, 3-5 18-2A) loss spoiled phenomenal efforts by Josee Ross and Paeton Nolan. Ross fired in 20 points and hauled in 24 rebounds while Nolan scored 18 points and netted 12 caroms. Alexus Lacy swished through seven points for Troup. Troup is at home Friday versus Sabine.



Brook Hill 54, Richardson Canyon Creek 23: RICHARDSON — The Guard of Brook Hill raced out to a 28-10 halftime advantage over the Cougars of Richardson Canyon Creek on Tuesday and romped to a 54-23 district win in the process. Brook Hill is now 13-10 overall and 2-0 in league outings. Phillip Kitt and Alex Hale pumped in 12 points apiece, Grant Hanks had 10 and Chase McDermott added nine for the Guard, who travel to McKinney Christina Friday. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. Canyan Creek fell to 0-2 in conference following the loss.


Rusk 59, Groesbeck 52: GROESBECK — Rusk's Eagles carved out their first District 19-3A win of the season on Tuesday by caging the Goats of Groesbeck, 59-52. Rusk moved to 11-13, 1-2 with the victory. No other information regarding this game was available. The host Mexia at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


Gilmer 45, Bullard 32: GILMER — By virtue of taking a 45-32 triumph over Bullard's Panthers on Tuesday, the Gilmer Buckeyes (10-3, 4-1 16-3A) were able to stay in the running for the district title, while the Panthers (12-10, 2-2) slipped to fourth place. Gilmer held Bullard to single digits in the first, second and third quarters while outscoring the visitors, 16-4, in the third stanza. Bullard is scheduled to entertain Spring Hill at 7:30 p.m. Friday.


New Summerfield 75, Neches 48: NEW SUMMERFIELD — Tied at the top of the 21-A-I standings now are New Summerfield and Alto after the Hornets nuked Neches 75-48 on Tuesday night at Hornet Gymnasium. New Summerfield, who is 3-0 in 2014, and Alto are both 2-0 in conference games. No other information concerning this game was available.
