Bullard's Hughes named as 16-3A Offensive Newcomer of the Year

BULLARD —

 

Highlighting a long list of Bullard Panthers that were voted onto the 16-3A All-District football team was sophomore Mikah Hughes, who was the circuit's Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

William Baker, a junior, was the Panthers' lone First Team pick on the offensive side.Baker was one of eight utility players to be selected by the district's coaches.

Austin Skelton, a senior outside linebacker, made the First Team along with special teams player Jared Alsobrook, who is an 11-th grader.

Second Team offensive picks from Bullard included Connor Mebane (Jr., QB), Jacob Shelton (Sr., WR), Zach Eshberger (Jr., WR), Aaron Johnson (Sr., OL) and Zach Aldridge (Jr., P).

A trio of panthers appeared on the Second Team defensive list.

That group included, Caleb Hallford (Jr., DL), Mikah Hughes (Soph.,OLB) and Turner Taylor (Jr., KR).

Bullard athletes lauded for the Honorable Mention roll were, Dorian Schutt (OL), Jake Allen (OL), David Molina (OL), Austin Skelton (F) and Drake Daly (WR).

Others included were, Branson Mullican (DL), Ryan Sloan (DL), Ryan Young (ILB), Connor Mebane (DB), Jared Alsobrook(DB) and Zack Eschberger (DB).

Fourteen of the Shannon Wilson-coached Panthers excelled scholastically and made the Academic All-District team.

That bunch included, Connor Mebane, Dillon White, Jakob Shelton, Brooks Parham, Dorian Schutt, Ryan Sloan and Brandon Mulligan.

Additional young men included on the roll were, Jared Alsobrook, Tristan Bishop, Trey Bowens, Brooks Conlee, Drake Daly, Zach Eschberger and Colby Green.

District Most Valuable Player accolades went to Kevrin Justice, a junior from Kilgore.

Co-Offensive MVP's were Andrew Black, a Chapel Hill senior and a former Jacksonville Indian and Gilmer's Tanner Barr, a senior.

Co-Defensive MVP's were Jake Brantley, a Kilgore senior and Gilmer 12-th grader Josh Walker.

The Defensive Newcomer honor was captured by Gilmer's Demarco Boyd, a sophomore.

Mike Wood and the Kilgore coaching staff garnered Coach of the Year plaudits.
