Hanks drops in 17; Brook Hill boys win by 28

 The Brook Hill Lady Guard ran into a buzz saw on Tuesday night losing a district match up to undefeated in league play, McKinney Christian, 60-25, in the girl’s varsity contest on Tuesday night at Brook Hill’s Herrington Sports Complex.

The Guard boys team however made it a league split, winning the finale of the night with a 59-28, win to improve the Guard record to 18-11 and 7-1 in league play.

McKinney Christian will play host to Dallas Lutheran on Friday night in a League doubleheader beginning with the girls game at 6 p.m.

Brook Hill will hit the road to play league-leading, Yvanah Academy of Dallas, on Thursday. Girl’s tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the boys to follow at 7 p.m.



McKinney Christian Academy 60, Brook Hill 25

Coming into Tuesday night’s TAPPS district matchup, the Lady Mustangs had been averaging 62-points while holding the opposition in league play to 12-points per outing.

McKinney Christian continued the district roll jumping out to a 22-3 advantage after one period, and the lead growing to over 40-points, with a 47-7, cushion at halftime. Alf-court trap defensive ploy for McKinney kept the Lady Guard in check with single digits in each quarter.

A tenacious switch from full court pressure to gain a 40-point lead at 43-3 before Avery Langemeier and Charlie Niles made back-to-back buckets in the last 2:22 of the half to close it to the 47-7, MCA lead.

Julie James led the Lady Mustangs (15-6; 8-0), with 22-points and nine rebounds to go with four assists and three steals in the game. Teammates Kayoe Zanetell scored 14-points, and Sarah Grubbs added 12-points in the win.

Brook Hill (9-10), got a team-high, 11-points from Langemeier, nailing three, 3-pointers in the loss. Charlie Niles and Emily Webb added five-point, and four-points respectively for the Lady Guard in the setback.

Brook Hill 59, McKinney Christian Academy 28

The Brook Hill boy’s utilized a great mix of trapping defensive schemes to come out with a commanding 59-28, win in the finale of the night.

Guard, point guard, Grant Hanks ignited a 13-point second quarter with eight of his 17-points in the game to lead to a 29-9, halftime lead for Brook Hill.

Hanks had eight rebounds, six steals, five assists, and two blocks to his credit in the win.

The Brook Hill defense forced 13 first half turnovers that were converted into 10-points for the Guard.

Brook Hill put nine scorers in the book on the way to the win with Phillip Kitt adding 14-points and Alex Hale with eight-points to pace the win. Kitt added in nine rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot.

Bryant Robinson hit a follow up shot to build the Guard lead to 54-16 early in the final period.

Jacksonville’s, Josh Heingartner came on to lead the Guard offense the final quarter and scored five-point (one trey), grabbed five rebounds, made four steals and three assists.

Blake Gomac and Ben Bajema scored 12, and 10-points respectively for the Mustangs in the loss. Bajema nailed four , 3-pointers, three of which came in the final period of play.

The Guard will play for first-place on Thursday when they play at Yvanah Academy (7-1).
