Black powers Lady Jackets to 4-2 win over Grapeland

ALTO —

Softball returned to Lady Jacket Park at Alto High School Tuesday afternoon as the Lady Jackets sent their fans home happy after defeating Grapeland, 4-2, in Alto's home opener.

The No. 3-ranked (Class A) Lady Jackets moved to 4-1 with the victory.

Alto went to work early on the Sandiettes and led 4-0 after two complete.

Laney Black had a base hit in each of the first two frames to go 2 for 3 on the day and lead her team at the dish.

Black drove in a run and plated once for the Lady Jackets.

Alyssa Duplichain got things rolling in the opening segment when she singled home Alto's first run of the afternoon.

In the second inning Vanessa Salgado doubled home Alexa Russo and Darivana Moore, with Black following with a single that brought Salgado in to score.

Madison Crisp earned a complete game win in the circle for Alto.

She gave up a pair of earned runs while permitting four hits while striking out five and issuing three free passes.

Crisp recorded first pitch strikes on 18 Grapeland hitters.

The Lady Jackets will be playing in the Nacogdoches/Central Heights Tournament, which is scheduled to run Thursday through Saturday.
