Hornet baseball plates 4 runs in the 7th to win opener, 7-5

Stewart strikes out 17, gets win on the hill

TYLER —

Baseball returned to New Summerfield High School Tuesday in triumphant fashion and with much drama and flair.

The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally to defeat Tyler King's Academy varsity, 7-5, at Tommy Paul Field in Tyler in the season opener for head coach Justin Willis' Hornet nine.

Dakota Harvey, a sophomore, laced a double into centerfield which plated Derrick Donnell and Devin Abercrombie. That two-base knock proved to be the hit of the game for the Hornets (1-0).

Harvey went 2 for 4 in the affair, stroking a pair of doubles while picking up two RBI.

Wesley Stewart tossed a complete game gem for New Summerfield.

Stewart allowed just two earned runs and struck out 17 opposing batters.

The Hornets will be playing next in the Chireno Baseball Classic, which runs through Saturday.
