The East Texas Athletic Trainers Association (ETATA) held its 7th Annual Monte Jamison/Scott Allen Scholarship Golf Tournament Monday at Emerald Bay Country Club in Bullard.
Recent Bullard High School graduates Samantha Miller and Taylor Albritton were two of the big winners on the day.
Each young lady was presented with a Monte Jamison scholarship, which will come in handy with Miller planning on continuing her athletic training endeavors at Tyler Junior College, while Albritton plans to be doing the same thing at the University of Texas-Tyler — both young ladies were athletic trainers at Bullard, under the watchful eye of Jeff “Doc” Shrode, head athletic trainer for the Bullard ISD.
Two scholarships were also awarded to college sophomores (names unavailable) in the name of Scott Allen.
For the sports enthusiasts who are wondering what team won the golf tournament, that honer went to Carthage ISD Athletics (Scott Surratt, Walter Preston, Tate Barber, Collin Underwood), who checked in at 52.
Jordan's Plant Farm (Greg Hamilton, Kevin Childress, Dennis Alexander, John Eastman) and the Elder Dodge team (Jason McLean, Chris Frederick, Drue Shelton, Jonathan Shelton) ended the day tied fro second at 54.
Josh Wheeler won longest drive and Colby Barron was closest to the hole.
The ETATA serves an area stretching from Paris to the north to Kaufman in the west, south to Lufkin and east to the Texas-Louisiana state line.
