MOUNT PLEASANT —
Nashena Richards, scored two goals and Meagan Burda added one as the Jacksonville College women's soccer team won their first NJCAA Region 14 match in school history in Friday's 3-0 shutout of Northeast Texas Community College.
The match was played on the Lady Eagles' home pitch in Mount Pleasant.
Vicky Garcia saw the majority of time in goal for JC, with Christina Ramos finishing out the final 25 minutes as net minder.
“Our girls really played well,” Gonzalez said. “I felt we dominated the entire game.”
The JC ladies, who are in their first year of action, are 2-4 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
Head coach Rafael Gonzalez' ladies will travel to Corsicana Thursday for another league encounter against nationally ranked Navarro College.
Men: Northeast Texas 3, Jacksonville College 2
In a match that featured plenty of offensive fireworks thanks to a total of three penalty kicks being awarded, the Eagles were able to edge an improving Jaguar squad, 3-2.
Neshaun Senior, a sophomore midfielder, and Martin Garcia, a freshman forward punched in goals for JC (0-6-1, 0-4).
Senior's goal came via the penalty kick, while Garcia deposited the ball into the twin on a nice breakaway.
The Jags are off until Saturday when they visit Richland College in the Metroplex for a non-conference match.
That contest is set to begin at 8 p.m., with a women's match between the two schools slated for 6 p.m.
