For the first time this season a pair of high school football talents — Marcus Kincade from Troup High School and Blake Maddox of The Brook Hill Hill School in Bullard — have been selected as the Daily Progress Players of the Week for Week 3.
Both young men are juniors.
Kincade, who owns 4.60 speed in the 40, didn't let the wet track conditions at Troup Tiger Stadium slow him down as he piled up 149 total return yards in Troup's 28-14 doubling up of the lads from nearby Arp.
Highlighting Kincade's efforts was a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter that enabled Troup to tie the game a six at that point.
Maddox, who is from Jacksonville, plays linebacker on the defensive side for the Guard of Brook Hill.
He collected an impressive 10 tackles in his team's 35-14 loss to Spring Hill, a member of UIL District 16-3A.
Regardless of the score, double-figure tackles is a rarity and deserves not to be overlooked.
This also marks the first time this season that a defensive and special teams player have been recognized.
Blake Lynch, QB, Troup — Lynch passed for 114 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 73 additional yards.
Zac Sturns, QB, Alto — Sturns passed for 125 yards and ran for 107 to pace the Yellowjackets to a 26-0 win over Frankston on Saturday afternoon (game was originally scheduled for Friday but steady heavy rains pushed the game back a day).
Claude Franklin, WR, Jacksonville — Franklin didn't seem to mind the mud, muck and rain either. He hauled in an 85-yard pass form quarterback Carter McCown and took it 85 yards for a touchdown in the Tribe's loss at Henderson.
Zero Week — Seth Brasher, WR, Brook Hill
Week One — Carter McCown, QB, Jacksonville
Week 2 — DJ Glenn, RB, Rusk
