In one of the wider games played Friday night, the defenses from both Rusk and Brownsboro let their offensive counterparts shine as the two clubs combined to score 81 points in the Eagles' 47-34 win over the Bears.
The win enabled the Rusk faithful to depart Eagle Stadium on homecoming night with a smile on their faces.
The Eagles are now 2-3 as they head into a brutal portion of their schedule,having to play the No. 1 -ranked team in Class 3A, Carthage, next week before opening conference play at Fairfield the following week.
The Bears had a two-game winning streak stopped with the loss.
Rusk looked like it was ready to claim a runaway win, but the Bears (2-3) battled until the final horn to wash out what had been a 29-point Rusk advantage in the third quarter.
