Four local businesses, Austin Bank, Dairy Queen, Texas National Bank and Whataburger have renewed their longstanding support of the Jacksonville Independent School District by purchasing new scoreboards for the Tomato Bowl and Mauldin Field.

The project was completed Monday when the finishing touches was were put on the new scoreboard and message center located in the south end zone of Tomato Bowl.

Leon's Sign Service of Tyler handled the installation of the new equipment, which was manufactured by Daktronics of Brookings, SD, as well as the removal of the old scoreboards.

“Anything that we can do to make things better for our kids we want to do,” Taber said. “When we first started working on this project back in the summer I turned to Austin Bank, Dairy Queen, Texas National Bank and Whataburger first and asked for their support with this project and they were more than willing to provide the new scoreboards, not only as a benefit to our school district, but for the community as well. These businesses have been proud sponsors for a long time.”

Texas National Bank handled the financial requirements for the new scoreboard at Mauldin Field, while the three remaining businesses divided up the costs of the scoreboard and message display board at Tomato Bowl.

While Taber declined to reveal the costs of the new scoreboards, he did say the project was 100-percent funded by the four aforementioned businesses and that no school district funds were use in the project.

The scoreboard at the Tomato Bowl will see its first action Friday night when the Fight'n Indians open their District 16-4A campaign by hosting Nacogdoches at 7:30 p.m.

Above the scoreboard is a slow video message board that will be used during games. It also has the capability to display content such as a speaker's presentation at a graduation ceremony.

On top of the message board is arched trusses with “Jacksonville Indians” attached.

Both scoreboards feature the latest technology, including the use of LED panels as opposed to individual bulbs, which will greatly improve the visual impact while being more energy efficient at the same time.
