Volleyball Roundup: Lady Tigers extend winning streak to 8 matches

Jacksonville, Bullard fall in conference play

TROUP —

Troup 3, Frankston 0: Troup's Lady Tigers ran their winning streak to eight matches Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium by wearing down Frankston 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-20) in district play. Cheney Cover had 10 kills, 20 digs and two aces to lead the Lady Tigers while Josee Ross pitched in 10 kills, seven digs, two blocks and an ace. Bethany Mason and Paeton Nolan led the team in digs with 18 and 11, respectively. Carly Dyess also had a big night as she registered 19 assists, five digs, three blocks and a couple of spikes. Troup will host Winona at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

John Tyler 3, Jacksonville 0: John Tyler made short work of Jacksonville in a District 16-4A match that was played in the Lion's Den Tuesday. The Lady Lions won 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-14). John Tyler also won both of the sub-varsity matches as well. Next up for the Maidens is a home date with Nacogdoches (4:30 p.m., Friday).

 

Spring Hill 3, Bullard 0: In a battle of Lady Panthers it was Spring Hill that dispensed a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 26-24) victory over visiting Bullard on Tuesday evening. Mackenzie Fish chalked up six kills and 17 digs and Ashley Searcy added three blocks for the Bullard cause. Rachel Kelley had six assists and a pair of service aces while Madi Hodges finished with a team-high 14 digs. Spring Hill also won the sub-varsity matches to complete the sweep. Bullard (19-13, 3-4 16-3A) entertains Gladewater at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

    In filling its opening for a head girl's basketball coach, The Brook Hill School turned to Ivan Johnson, a coach that has been has achieved playoff success in TAPPS circles.

    Johnson was introduced as Brook Hill's man to lead the Lady Guard hoop charges Tuesday afternoon in a press conference that was held on campus at the Kyle Lake Athletic Center.
