Tatum Tournament: McDermott's double-double sends Brook Hill to Silver Bracket title

Brook Hill's Phillip Kitt delivered a pair of timely triples that helped send the Guard to a 55-49 victory over Class 4A Hallsville in the championship game of the Tatum Holiday Hoops Showcase's Silver Bracket Saturday.

After Hallsville had taken its first lead of the game, 40-47, with 5:42 left to play, Kitt dropped in two bombs from long range that quickly propelled the Guard back into the lead.

With Brook Hill up one with 49 seconds left in regulation, Chase McDermott canned a rainbow that enabled Brook Hill to escape with the win.

McDermott tallied a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Alex Hale pitched in 14 points for the Guard.

Kitt finished with 12 points and Grant Hanks added eight.

Brook Hill opened the game n a 16-0 run and led 28-18 at intermission.

After a short break for Christmas, the Guard will return to action at 3 p.m. Thursday when they face Athens in the first round of the Wagstaff Holiday Classic at Tyler Junior College.

Maarshall defeated host Tatum, 74-67, to win the championship of the Gold bracket.

Tatum knocked off Jacksonville in a semi-final game in the Gold Bracket.
