The key number in Tuesday's District 16-4A matchup in Jacksonville between the Fightin' Maidens and John Tyler's Lady Lions was 24 Jacksonville turnovers.

By comparison, JT handed the rock over 11 times, and that difference had a significant part in the Lady Lions being able to walk out of the JISD Gymnasium with a 56-43 win over the Maidens.

The loss kept Jacksonville winless (0-2) in league encounters — the Maidens are 11-10 overall — while JT improved to 15-8, 2-0.

The Maidens fell behind early as the Lady Lions led 16-6 after the first period of play in a game that the Maidens never led.

Jacksonville tied things up at two with 4:31 to go in the opening stanza, which was the only point that the home team did not trail in the affair.

JT took a double-digit lead, 30-19, for good with 1:15 to go in the first half, following a lay up by Ashtyn Beal, who led the Lions in scoring with 16 points.

Amia Wickware drained three shots from behind the arc to end the night with 14 points.

Jacksonville closed the game out on a 7-0 run to finish with a little zip, after trailing by as many as 20 points with 3:31 left in the game.

Monica Franklin led the Maidens offensive, with 17 points, followed by TaSheena Canady with 11. Canady drained two shots from long range.

Franklin completed a double-double by coming down with 10 rebounds.

Inchantra Kendrick also gave a solid effort for Jacksonville and scored six points to compliment her nine boards.

The Maidens will journey to Lindale Friday evening, with tip-off scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
