The book closed on the the first year of New Summerfield High School boy's soccer season on Saturday night, after the Hornets had polished off Van, 3-1, to win the Small School Soccer Championship Tournament, which was played on a rainy Saturday night at Bill McRae Field at Jacksonville College.
The Hornets ended up with a record of 11-5-0.
New Summerfield qualified for the finals after putting away Crockett's Bulldogs, 6-1, earlier in the day.
The Hornets led 1-0 at halftime, and from there it was smooth sailing.
Scoring for the Hornets was Jose Mendoza, who drilled in a pair of goals and Oscar Torres.
According to the New Summerfield coaching staff, Cesar Hernanadez, Gerardo Sainz and Abel Servin (goal keeper) played well defensively.
The Hornets ended the year on a nine-match winnng streak.
