LIBERTY EYLAU —

Former Jacksonville High School head athletic director and head football coach, Steve Wells, has been hired in the same capacity at Liberty Eylau High School.

Wells' hire is subject to school board approval. The final decision is expected to be addressed during a school board meeting scheduled for March 20.

Wells, a graduate of the University of Arkansas Monticello, coached the Tribe for four seasons (2008-11) and led the team to an overall record of 21-22.

In 2009 and 2010, Jacksonville posted records of 7-4, which highlighted Wells' tenure.

Wells served as an assistant coach at Nacogdoches High School in 2012, before taking over as offensive coordinator at Liberty Eylau last season.

The Liberty Eylau opening was created when former head coach Brian Brown accepted the head coaching position at Red Oak High School previously.

Prior to his stint at Jacksonville, Wells was head coach at Hooks High School and at Mineola High School.

His career record is 44-45.
