Jacksonville College splits latest pair of matches

Jacksonville College's nationally ranked team teams split a couple of non-conference matches on Saturday in Plano.

The Jaguars, ranked No. 13 in the country, blasted Houston Community College, 9-0, while falling to the No. 5-Cougars of Collin College by the same score.

In the win over HCC, JC's Ricardo Berlinga & Edgar Polanco downed Vivani & Truong, 8-1 in No. 1 men's doubles.

Gil Lim & Daniel Apacible paired up to thump Martinez & Polk, 8-1.

Miles Munro & Taylor Johnson won their men's doubles match by default.

In men's singles play JC won all of its matches in straight sets.

Berlinga topped Vivani 6-0, 6-0, while Polanco destroyed Truong 6-2, 6-1.

In No. 3 mens' singles, Lim leveled Polk 6-0, 6-2 and Apacible hung the goose eggs on Crews, 6-0, 6-0.

Miles Munro earned a point for the Jags with a 6-6, 6-2 conquest over Martinez.

And, finally, Johnson derailed Andrew Crews 6-0, 6-1.



The Lady Jags,ranked No. 25 in the current ITA poll, coasted past HCC, 6-1. after dropping a 9-0 verdict to Collin College.

In the HCC match, Frankston's Kara Chitty & Lambo Robinson stopped Leaney & S. Martinez 8-2 in No. 1 women's doubles play.

Kailla Parker & Carolina Hernandez, a Jacksonville High product, chalked up an 8-3 win over J. Martinez & C. Verdejo from HCC.

In women's singles, Hernandez, Chitty, Parker and Ashley Hermis all came away with victories.

JC tennis will be back in action on Apr. 4-5 by taking part in the Seminole State (Okla.) College Trojan Duel matches in Oklahoma City.
