Five different Rusk Lady Eagles stroked two hits apiece as a part of a 13-hit attack as the Lady Eagles dumped Fairfield, 9-2, in a District 19-3A game that took place in Rusk Tuesday.
Rusk, who is of Friday, but will be back in action Tuesday when the Lady Eagles host Groesbeck at 7 p.m., ran their worksheet to 13-7, 3-0 19-3A, with the win.
Second-place Fairfield slipped a notch to 10-10, 2-1.
Rusk lead-off hitter Rachel Miller gave a huge effort offensively. She went 2 for 4 on the night, which was highlighted by a double.
Miller also drove in and scored two runs.
Gabby Willis and Kelsey Blankinship each had a pair of hits, while Blankenship drove in a pair of runs as well.
Also throwing in a couple of hits while driving in a run were Cassie Fletcher and Kaitlin Tugwell.
Tugwell was a busy young lady, as she was named Player of the Game by the Rusk coaching staff for her steady work with the leather, which included her anchoring a double play.
Cheyanne Phillips was credited with the win in the pitching circle after going seven innings and giving up two runs, both earned, on eight hits.
Phillips, a senior, struck out seven and walked one. Phillips is 13-7 this season with a 2.82 earned run average.
She has struck out 77 batters in 119 innings of work and has issued 43 base on balls.
