NEW YORK —
Malik Smith, a former Jacksonville College standout, knocked in six points in Minnesota's 65-63 win over SMU Thursday night in the championship game of the National Invitational Tournament, which was played in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Austin Hollins drove in the game winning bucket — a three pointer — that came with 46.1 seconds left in regulation.
Hollins led Minnesota in scoring with 19 points.
The NIT title win was the third in school history for the Gophers.
Smith, who played on season at JC, is a senior out of Boston, Mass.
