DIBOLL — Diboll used a big second quarter to spoil Jacksonville's season opener that took place Saturday afternoon at Lumberjack Gymnasium.

The Ladyjacks (2-0) outscored the Maidens 24-8 in the second stanza and eventually went on to win 49-35.

The Maidens (0-1) played extremely well late against a Ladyjack team that went 22-7 last year.

Jacksonville outscored Diboll 21-12 in the second half — the Maidens limited the Ladyjacks to just two field goals in the final 16 minutes of play..

Niya Bryant (6' 2”, Jr.) and Lexxus Hamilton scored 12 points each to pace the Ladyjack attack.

Meanwhile, Jasmine Parson fired in 20 points in her return to the Maidens' line-up after missing last season due to medical reasons.

“This was a tremendous learning experience for our team,” Jacksonville head coach Tony Harris said. “Bryant is a legitimate (NCAA) Division I prospect; in addition they had two other players that were 5' 10” or above and they were athletic at every position.”

Harris said that he was impressed by the way his team refuse to quit in the game.

“What stood out the most was the heart of this team,” he said. “We were down by 24 early in the third quarter and they played with resolve and determination,” Harris said,. “With four minutes left to play we had whittled their lead down to 10 (points) and Diboll was calling time out.”

Jacksonville travels to Lufkin Hudson (varsity only) on Friday night.
