JACKSONVILLE — Baseball: Indians to host Brownsboro on Saturday

After being on the road for the past two and a half weeks the Jacksonville Indian baseball team will have an opportunity to play before the home faithful when the Tribesmen host Brownsboro at noon Saturday at Summers Norman Field. The contest will be the Tribe's final tune up before lifting the lid on District 16-4A play on Tuesday night in Nacogdoches. First pitch in that contest is set for 7 p.m.

Baseball: Brook Hill to play final pre-district game

BULLARD — Brook Hill will take on Elkhart at noon Saturday in what will be the Guard's final pre-conference game. The game will be played at Herrington Field on the Brook Hill campus. The Guard will then have a a brief break early next week and will return to action on Mar. 26 by opening district play by entertaining Richardson Canyon Creek at 4:30 p.m.

Softball: Troup's Standley receives national honor

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Troup High School's Katelyn Standley was one of three young ladies to have been named as MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for the week of March 4-11. Standley, a senior catcher and Stephen F. Austin State University signee, joined Kasey Cooper (Dothan, Ala. High School) and Taylor Cotton (Whitney High School, Rocklin, Calif.). Standley has helped Troup get off to an 18-4-2 start this seaosn and achieve a No. 13 (Class 2A) state ranking. Standley hit .684 (13-for-19) during the period, with 16 runs scored, four doubles, three triples, four home runs, six walks and 19 RBI. She is currently hitting .576 for the season with 11 doubles, four triples and eight round tripers. Standley has driven in 37 runs.     One would probably be hard pressed to find any summer youth sports camp with a more streamlined approach than was found at the Jacksonville Fightin' Maiden Basketball camp, which took place this week at the Jacksonville High School Gymnasium.

    “We just asked the young ladies for two things,” Tony Harris, Jacksonville High School head girl's basketball coach, stated on Wednesday. “First, we wanted them to have fun and secondly we wanted them to learn control — to be able to control their eyes, their body and the (opposing) defender.”
