Brook Hill Guard, Lady Guard, notch playoff triumphs; Pirtle earns 300th-career victory

BULLARD — The Brook Hill School swept a TAPPS bi-district doubleheader over Fort Worth- Christian with two pitching gems from Taylor Schultz, and Wofford University-bound Quinton Pile.

Brook Hill lefty, Taylor Schultz threw a complete game three-hitter to lead the Lady Guard to a 11-3, win over Fort Worth-Temple Christian Academy in TAPPS

Class 3A softball, on a windy Friday afternoon at Schwab Field on the Brook Hill campus.

Pile kept the Guard ahead of the game, riding the wind and handcuffing the Eagles for a close 2-0 win, and head coach Terry Pirtle’s 300th win as a baseball head coach.

Lady Guard 11, Lady Eagles 3

Leading 3-0, Brook Hill rattled off a big five-run, fifth inning to built an 8-1, cushion for Schultz.

Ari Assad led the Lady Guard offensive attack going 3 for 4, with two, two-RBI triples, four RBI’s, and a run scored.

Deserae Rowan was the catalyst in the lead-off spot of the line-up, going 1-for-3, with two runs scored.

Schultz added a hit and one RBI, while scoring once to aid her mound cause. From the circle, the freshman, struck out 10, walked only three, hit three batters, but gave in to only three hits and no earned runs allowed.

Brook Hill (8-6), will play area round game against Fort Worth-Calvary Christian, today at a site and time to be announced.

TAPPS Class 3A Area Baseball

Guard 2, Eagles 0

The Guard warmed up to plate eight runs in the final two at-bats to claim the ten-run ruling after six innings.

A strong and tricky wind played havoc for the defense and especially the Eagles, fumbling seven errors in the game.

The Guard staked an early lead as catcher and Abilene Christian signee, Kendall Kerns blasted a two-run, round tripper, and the early 2-0 advantage.

That score would stand until the Guard put the game away with eight runs the last two at-bats and Eagles miscues helping the Brook Hill batters.

Pile has a strong outing at the plate and on the mound.

The senior was 2 of 3, with two runs scored. He struck out seven Eagle batters, walked one, and scattered the four hits in the game for the win.

The Guard (20-5), will play have to play at their best with an upcoming three-game series with TAPPS baseball power Lubbock Christian.

    In that newly minted poll, the Lady Jackets took command of the No. 1 spot for the first time this season.

    Alto (20-3), the undefeated District 21-A champions, displaced Beckville (29-2) from the top spot.

    Martin Melchor of Jacksonville High School was voted by the District 35-4A boys soccer coaches as the circuit's Offensive Most Valuable Player.

    Melchor is the all-time leading scorer in Tribe soccer history. He will continue his academic and athletic career at Coastal Carolina University (NCAA, Division I) following his graduation from JHS later this spring.

    The Lady Panthers will take on Athens in a Class 3A, Region II bi-district best-of-three series that gets under way beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Grand Saline High School.

    The teams will travel back to Grand Saline for a noon game on Saturday, with a Game 3 (if needed) to follow the second contest.
