Palestine Dogwood Relays: Maidens take 2nd; Indians finish 3rd


Jacksonville's Fightin' Maidens and Indian track and field squads had a good day in Palestine Thursday when the Jacksonville girls finished second in the Dogwood Relays and the Fightin' Indians took third place in the varsity boys segment.

Host Palestine logged 155 points on the varsity girls side, with Jacksonville and Grapeland each rolling up 103 points.

Next was Nacogdoches with 94 points.

Rusk's Lady Eagles tallied 36 points.

Nacogdoches was the runaway winner in the varsity boys team standings.

The Dragons piled up 223.5 points to easily out distance Palestine (119) and Jacksonville (102).

Rusk (16) came in seventh in the eight team field.

    Most of the clubs will take part in scrimmages or playdays in late week before opening the regular season the following week.

     The summer junior golf tour schedule is now in the home stretch and Jacksonville's Cameron Brown is closing like a freight train.

    Brown played in two tournaments this week and came in third place in each, while going up against some top-caliber junior golfers from the Metroplex.

    On Monday and Tuesday, the son of Dean and Mary Carol Brown, played in a Texas Junior Golf Tour (TJGT) stop at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney where he shot rounds of 73 and 71 to earn third place out of a field of 54 boys.

    The Rusk Rangers 14U team were scheduled to take on Malakoff Monsters Friday night in an elimination game in the Texas Teen-Age Baseball Association (TTA) state tournament in Hillsboro.

    Rusk suffered its first lost in the double-elimination event after falling to the Eagles from Mildred.
