Doug Jordan Relays: Jacksonville, Rusk boys earn podium finishes

Bullard claims varsity girls title by large margin

RUSK —  This year's edition of the Doug Jordan Relays — held in somewhat brisk conditions at Rusk's Eagle Stadium on Thursday evening —  brought together, as promised, the cream of the crop in regard to Cherokee County and southern Smith County track and field teams.

Tatum, propelled by wins in both the 400 meter and 1600 meter relays, racked up 177 points to out distance Jacksonville in the varsity boys division.

The Indians performed well and earned 140 points and the silver medal.

Jacksonville's Dadrian Franklin captured first place in three events (high jump, long jump and field jump) to boost the Indian thin clads.

Athletes from Rusk didn't disappoint either, as the Eagles garnered 70 points to take third.

Madisonville was fourth with 59 points, followed by Pollak Central (58) and Bullard and Tatum “B” who both had 22 points.

Carthage (13), who sent a partial team, brought up the rear.

Bullard's Lady Panthers logged four gold medal efforts and complimented that with eight runner-up finishes to run away with the team title in the varsity girl's segment.

Team Bullard scored 181 points, with Carthage (126) a distance second.

Rusk edged Jacksonville 97.6 to 97 points in the battle for third place.

Next was Madisonville (37), followed by Pollak Central (33) and Tatum (23.3).
