Clayton Engel dumped in a game-high 21 points to help propel Brook Hill to a 63-48 rout over Fort Worth Lake Country in a TAPPS Class 3A regional tilt that took place at Forney High School Tuesday evening.
With the victory the Guard (22-13) punched a ticket into the state tournament. Brook Hill will face Lubbock Christian (28-4) at Fort Worth Nolan Catholic at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
A win in that game would move Brook Hill into Saturday night's championship game, which is scheduled for an 8 p.m. Tip off at Mansfield Legacy High School.
Engel, a sophomore, scored 11 of his points in the first period when Brook Hill jumped out to a 26-9 lead.
That proved to be too big of hurdle for Lake Country to get over.
The win was especially joyous for the Guard as Lake Country is the team that eliminated Brook Hill from state tournaments in each of the past two seasons.
Alex Hale, a sophomore post tossed in 19 points and Grant Hanks popped in 16 to lead a balanced Brook Hill scoring attack.
Sterling Lindsey led Lake Country with 21 points. Lindsey hit seven triples in the game.
Brook Hill also had much success from long range.
Engel dropped in five treys, and Hanks had a pair.
Rounding out the scorers for the winners was Jake Anderson with five and Chase McDermott who added two points.
The Eagles, who shaved the deficit to 53-47 in the fourth quarter before Brook Hill closed like a freight train, ended the year with a 15-8 record.
