New Summerfield closed out play in the Chireno Tournament on Saturday by getting past Wells, 13-12.
The Hornets evened their slate at 2-2 with the win and were powered by the hitting of Dakota Harvey, who picked up three hits in the game and drove in five runs.
Freshman Wesley Ssmith hurled the complete-game win on the hill for the Hornets. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate.
Other players of note for New Sumemrfield included Devin Abercrombie who scored two runs and swiped four bases, Johnathan Trinidad (2 for 3) and Sean Johnson (2 for 4). Chacne Carr, Chris Hernandez and Dillon Fowlkes each had one hit in the game.
“We'll continue to grow each game,” New Summerfield head coach Justin Willis said. “Team chemistry played a major role (Saturday) and we had several guys step in in crucial moments.”
