Littlejohn celebrates 18th birthday by throwing 4th perfect game of year and fanning 18

RUSK — Thirty-two years ago, towards the end of the disco era, the then-popular R&B group Kool and the Gang scored with a colossal hit, “Celebration”, that made it all the way to number one on several music charts world wide.

There was a celebration at Lady Eagle Park in Rusk Tuesday night as Lady Eagle pitching ace and University of Alabama signee, Sydney Littlejohn, took center stage, which in her case is the pitching circle.

The tall-righty fireballer proceeded to celebrate her 18th birthday in memorable fashion by recording her fourth perfect game of the year in Rusk's 8-0 win over Mexia.

And to top that off, Littlejohn struck out 18 Ladycat batters.

Who needs cake and candles to have a blast? A perfect game accompanied by 18 strike outs, will do just fine.

Littlejohn's four- perfecto fete is a personal best for her — she previously tossed a pair of perfect games during her sophomore campaign.

Littlejohn's first gem this year came in early February against Class 5-A Richland during the Bryan-College Station Tournament.

Since that time Littlejohn has logged masterpieces over Lindale (Class 4A) and against district rivals Palestine and most recently, Mexia.

Chelsea Daniels had an over-the-wall home run to lead Rusk (19-2, 6-0 19-3A) at the plate.

The Lady Eagles will close out the home portion of their schedule at 6 p.m. Friday by welcoming in Fairfield.

NOTE: Should the district track meet be postponed today due to rain, the league's softball games that are scheduled for Friday night will be postponed until Saturday (TBA, if applicable), so that Friday can be used as a make-up date for the track and field meet.
