TYLER — Yvonne Maosa is listed as a freshman on the Jacksonville College women's basketball roster.

She certainly didn't play like a typical freshman on Saturday.

Maosa, who ended the day with eight points and five rebounds, was fouled as she soared into the air for a rebound with five second left to play.

She then went to the free-throw line and calmly sank both shots giving Jacksonville College a 78-76 win over Odessa College in final-day play of the Tyler Junior College Sleep Inn Classic.

The loss dropped the Lady Wranglers 2-2 on the year while the Lady Jags improved to 2-3 with the win.

“Our team played their tails off against a very good Odessa team on Saturday,” JC head coach Lynn Nabi said. “After Yvonne (Maosa) put us in front we had to follow that up with a smart defensive series and we were able to that and get the final stop in the game.”

JC had three women to finish in double figures.

Khadijah Carter and Susan Ageson, both freshmen, pumped in 16 points apiece and Chelsea Rogers, a sophomore, tossed in 14.

Bre Burford added eight points for the Lady Jags, who host Hill College at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

Carter led her team in rebounds with eight, followed by Ageson and sophomore Jinaki Robinson, who had seven each.

Another bright spot for the JC women was the fact that the team committed just 12 turnovers in the game.

JC also shot 20-of-25 (80-percent) as a team from the charity line.

“The Lady Jaguars were led by a group of ladies and played like a team,” Nabi said, “It was a good feeling and it was good to see our freshmen handling the pressure of early-season college ball and rising to the occasion.”
